Person Details

Daniel Herrera-Escartín is a PhD candidate at the University of Barcelona, working at the intersection of biological anthropology, neuroscience, and genetics. His interdisciplinary trajectory, including Master’s training in Biological Anthropology and in Statistics and Data Science, has shaped his interest in using quantitative approaches to address questions about human biological variation, development, and mental health.
His doctoral research investigates morphological and genomic markers associated with psychosis, with a particular focus on hippocampal morphology and asymmetry in schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. A central theme of his work is developmental instability: the idea that subtle deviations in biological development may leave measurable signatures in morphology and contribute to variation in cognition and vulnerability to psychiatric disorders. His research combines neuroimaging, morphometrics and genomic analyses to examine these questions across multiple biological levels.
